Clearing Up Misconceptions: Our Stance on Growth & Tax Incentives

There’s a common misconception that we are anti-growth or anti-development. That is simply not the case.

All three of us opposed certain aspects of the Crown development, including the $109 million TIF. Our reasoning has been clearly stated across Facebook, and our stance was based on what we believe is best for Sugar Grove.

Because of our position on this particular TIF, some assume we are against all tax incentives—this is not true. Here’s where we stand:

✔️ We support sales tax incentives to attract certain retail establishments. The exact dollar amount would depend on what surrounding towns have offered for similar rebates.

✔️ When it comes to property tax rebates, TIFs, or similar incentives, we would consider them for a major employer moving to Sugar Grove or a critical community need, such as a hospital. However, any deal would be limited and nothing like what Crown received.

❌ We would never agree to a deal that gives away two-thirds of property tax revenue for 23 years.

Our goal is smart, responsible growth that benefits the community without burdening taxpayers and taxing districts unfairly.
